Need an easy sewing project, try a Burp Cloths

easy sewing projectIf you don’t have kids, you might know someone who does and a burp cloth is an easy sewing project to manage.

Kids… I’m learning as a new dad, drool  and spit up everywhere and on everything. Rest assured, this project will be appreciated by you and everything the little one touches.

You can keep it simple or pick a fun pattern, in the end, it won’t be on the baby that long, especially if your little one drools like mine.

  1. I used two different receiving blanks that were different patterns.
  2. I ended up cutting them into two triangle pieces, about the size of a bandanna folded into a triangle.
  3. Then I made sure the sides I wanted on the outside were facing in towards each other. before I started sewing.
  4. Find the thread color that closely matches the patter of the two peaces of fabric that you are working with.
  5. I sewed around the edges using a straight stitch and left about two inches at the end of my sew to flip everything right side out.
  6. I finished sewing the ends and used velcro on the tips of the cloth to hold the end pieces together when I put the cloth on my son.

You don’t have to use receiving blankets, you can use any material you don’t mind getting dirty, but I would warn against any heavy weight material because it could get hot.

Here is another way you could do it make do this sewing project! Better than just me explaining it, watch!

If you don’t have time for an easy sewing project…

Is Sewing really a lost art?

Is Sewing really a lost art?

Is Sewing a lost art, Really?…

SewingSeriously, Sewing is not a lost art? please… So yeah its not maybe say “treading” on twitter but its not dead. Sewing is a skill that anyone can learn and knowing how to sew can help you save time and money. If you’re not an expert, it’s OK; nobody starts off that way. If you are really interested in learning, take your time and have fun with it.

Learning how to sew can be fun and rewarding. You can making a few extra dollars on the side if you want which is also nice. The best part is you don’t have to pay $25, $40 per item at an alteration shop.

Many people have learned this skill and use their talent every day. Remember, there is plenty of information available to you.

The sewing machines I have reviewed are two of the easiest to work with, ideal for beginners and the price is not bad. To Learn more about the Brother Project Runway model or the Brother XL-3750 click on the links and learn why I recommend these two brands.

I bought my first machine for about $80 on Amazon and now that same machine is $230. I don’t know why the price jumped but you really shouldn’t have to spend more than $150 for a good machine, my opinion.

There are so many options available to you, shop around and find the machine you can afford and the one you think is right for you.

Sewing is a pretty great skill to know. I don’t like asking people for help with something especially if I know I can do it my self. I would recommend finding a project you have always wanted to try and study how other people do that project. You can always put your spin on things and make it your own.

Use the information provided on this site, order a sewing machine, start practicing and get sewing.
